Meet the Doctor

Nine years ago something happened that changed my life forever.

I graduated from Western Michigan University, playing football for five years. After graduation, football remained my passion, but when I was released from the Chicago Bears I found myself at a real turning point. While contemplating what to do with the rest of my life, one of my closest friends, a chiropractor, gave me three invaluable words of advice that changed my life:  “Follow your heart.” For the next two weeks I was up all night trying to think what I needed to do to “Follow my heart.”

My thoughts wandered back to when I was fourteen years old. On one wintery morning my mom and I were in an auto accident.  After the accident, I initially felt fine but began having massive headaches and nausea a few days later.  I couldn’t sleep or focus and I was extremely irritable with everyone including own family. Everyone was worried because they had never seen me this way.

Later in the week I went to see my chiropractor. He explained that my spine had been injured in the accident and that my nervous system had been damaged.  At first I thought, “How could this be?”  I’d walked away with no broken bones, not even a bruise! But, I was aware that something had changed and with each passing day I was feeling worse.

Upon my first visit the chiropractor did a case history, chiropractic exam, and took the necessary films of my spine. During the second visit, he explained that he’d found multiple subluxations in my spine (spinal injuries that heal incorrectly and damage the nervous system) and that he could help me. He started by adjusting my spine (which is a light impulse applied to the injured area of the spine). The adjustments didn’t hurt, but I started to notice how much better my whole body was functioning. My chiropractor gave me my life and dreams back. Thinking back to this event inspired me to do the same for others so I decided to “follow my heart” and enroll in chiropractic college.

I am a graduate of Onsted High School in Onsted, MI. After high school I attended and played football at Western Michigan University, where I received a Bachelor’s degree. Following a stint with the Chicago Bears, I moved to Davenport, IA, where I attended Palmer College of Chiropractic.

Beyond serving my patients, I am a father to my two beautiful son's Jack and Alex and husband to my lovely wife Jennifer, who earned her B.S and M.B.A. and played volleyball at Western Michigan University.

I hope you enjoy this web site as much as I have enjoyed providing it.  Please feel free to share it with your friends and family.  I would love to have your feedback.

Yours in health,
Dr. Garrett L. Soldano

Meet Our Chiropractic Assistants

My name is Dee Carlisle. I have an amazing husband, am mother to 5 children and moved to Michigan from Indiana about a year ago.  I started my career in the dental field and, until recently, thought that was my passion.

I’ve had a history of neck and back pain and had been seeing a pain management doctor for 8 years.  I’d also been plagued by recurring headaches and sensations of pins and needles traveling down my right arm.  Sometimes, I would find myself lying in bed just waiting for the muscles in my back to calm down.  I tried physical therapy, cortisone injections, massage therapy and just about every muscle/pain medication ever invented.  I took Advil PM every night just so that I could get some rest.  I had migraines so severe that they sent me to the emergency room just for a shot to calm them at least 3 times a year. Finally, I reconciled myself to the fact that I would just have to live with the pain for the rest of my life and adapted my lifestyle to accommodate my symptoms. It seemed the best I could hope for was occasional short term relief but I always questioned why I was having all this pain.

Shortly after moving, my lower back went out while I was shopping in Wal-Mart.  It was bad—I was literally on the floor hanging on to the shopping cart.  To make matters worse, I was in a new state and had not yet found a doctor in the area.

After getting help and finally getting home, my sister called her chiropractor.  I resisted because it was a Sunday and, after all, chiropractors are not REAL doctors!

It turns out that my experience at Wal-Mart in October 2009 was a life changing event for me.  I became a patient of Dr. Garrett Soldano--entering his office barely able to walk and thinking to myself that there was no way this doctor was going to help me considering my history and list of ailments.  WRONG!

After going through the exam process and hearing what Dr. Soldano had to say, I explained to him my beliefs about the chiropractic field. He listened intently and corrected my mistaken notions about the field of chiropractic.  Finally, he looked me in the eye and said, “I CAN HELP YOU”.  When I came back for my report of findings and looked at my x-rays Dr. Soldano pointed out the injuries that were causing all my pain and how old these injuries were.  Light bulbs started flashing!  The dots were being connected and I was seeing the root causes of my problems.

We had a lengthy conversation about the general health of my family. Both my husband and I attended a Health Awareness Seminar that Dr. Garrett holds every Tuesday night. It was at this seminar that I realized my whole family needed chiropractic care.  I love my kids with every ounce of energy inside of me; I only want optimum health and happiness for them. An exam and x-ray of each of my 5 children showed me why they would benefit from chiropractic care too. Their birth process, as well as all the falls, sports and accidents that happen to children had taken their toll.  I thought of all the symptoms they’d experienced that they needed medicine for:  flu, colds, asthma, headaches, backaches, neck pain, etc. but never thought to ask myself why they were having these symptoms.

In October my journey into chiropractic began and in November I started working at Soldano Family Chiropractic.  I can tell you that the well-being and good health my family has enjoyed because of their chiropractic care has been priceless.  I have not needed to give my children any medication for anything since we began treatment here.  When they do have headaches or are sick with a cold or flu, we get adjusted and let the body heal itself.  My 14 year old daughter, who has been tested and diagnosed with a learning disability, has struggled with academics throughout elementary school.  It’s been a life of tutors, hours of frustration and long hours of homework with disappointing results—until now.  She just finished her semester and got a straight A report card!  I cannot tell you anything that has changed in our lives except the fact that she gets adjusted regularly.  I’ve seen amazing results in the health of my family.  I have seen amazing results in the health of our patients. I have a new passion for chiropractic care and am so happy to be a part of our vision here of Healthier People=Healthier Planet.
